Dr Davina Gregory-Dunsmuir
Executive Director, Chief Executive Officer, Co-Founder
Davina brings more than a decade of experience in the phytopharmaceutical industry. Prior to founding Cyrelian she headed the Agricultural Research and Development department at Tasmanian Alkaloids, formerly owned by the global pharmaceutical company Johnson and Johnson. Tasmanian Alkaloids grow opium poppies for the extraction of Narcotic Raw Materials to produce pharmaceutical products such as codeine and morphine under GMP certification. Davina lead a solution focused research program to drive business growth, culminating in the development and ongoing improvement of two patented poppy varieties.
More recently, she was responsible for managing the research, development and extension aspects of geographic expansion for cultivation of opium poppy production into mainland Australia and New Zealand. This included significant liaison with, and providing advice to a wide range and number of government departments/agencies in both countries. From 2015 she has been involved in the Medicinal Cannabis industry in Australia.
Davina has a Bachelor of Science with Honours and a PhD in plant molecular genetics. Her honours, PhD and recent work history have all involved the extraction and analysis of plant compounds including hormones, alkaloids and cyanogenic compounds. Davina also holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration, a Graduate Certificate in Applied Statistics and is formally trained in various business management strategies such as Lean, Six Sigma and Design Excellence.
She is a former board member of Tasmanian Women in Agriculture, and is a current member of the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture Advisory Board.
Executive Director, Company Secretary, Co-Founder
Toby has over 20 years experience in the agricultural industry. Graduating with a Bachelor of Rural Science, he spent his first four working years employed by the global companies CIBA and Novartis. He was placed in charge of their GLP and GCP studies to evaluate the performance and efficacy of newly discovered compounds. Since then, he has worked for a number of other multinational companies including Syngenta and Fonterra, always with a clear focus on research and development, business growth through strategic partnerships, strategy development and implementation. He has a proven history in managing retail customer-based businesses, including developing long-term strategies for mutually profitable growth with strategic partners. In these roles he delivered a clear focus on market drivers, research and development, financial analysis, and strategy implementation. He has a track record in motivating and managing sales teams to achieve company sales budgets, increase market share and sustainable, high levels of customer service.
Prior to founding Cyrelian he worked as the General Manager of Alkman Management Services Pty Ltd, contracted by Tasmanian Alkaloids, formerly owned by Johnson and Johnson, to undertake trials to assess the commercial viability of producing opium poppies in Victoria. This role included significant liaison with Victorian government regulatory personnel overseeing compliance with cultivating controlled medicinal plants in that state.
In addition to being a director of Cyrelian, he maintains a national strategy, product development and sales and marketing role for AMVAC Australia Pty Ltd.
Non-Executive Director, Chair
Rob is an experienced director and businessman. Previously a partner with Deloitte, he has had considerable public company experience in recent years. In particular, he was the founding investor and led the IPO of Bellamy’s Organic (ASX: BAL) as inaugural chair. He was also responsible for the development of the business including building the executive team. Bellamy’s, a Tasmanian baby food manufacturing business, is considered one of the biggest success stories of the ASX in recent years and now has a market capitalisation of over $2b.
Rob is was also one of the founders and inaugural Chair of TasFoods Ltd a publicly listed agribusiness focused on the manufacture and marketing of premium Tasmanian food. Rob has also chaired Tandou Ltd a publicly listed, water investment and agribusiness based on the Murray Darling river system. Other previous roles include Non-Executive Director of Forestry Tasmania, a Tasmanian Government Business Enterprise; Chair of the Tasmanian Forests and Forest Industry Council and Managing Director of Webster’s Ltd a publicly listed agricultural company.
Rob has supported the not for profit sector and is a member of the Board of Tasmanian Leaders Inc., he was also the founding Chair of Freycinet Coast Financial Services Ltd, a Community Bank (Bendigo Bank franchise) located on the East Coast of Tasmania.
Rob continues to actively support emerging businesses with several private investments in the food and logistics sector.
Rob holds a Bachelor of Economics (Tas), is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Member of the Institute of Company Directors.
James is one of Tasmania’s leading corporate lawyers and has had considerable experience internationally (with a particular expertise in M&A and capital raisings/IPOs). He is also an experienced company director with business and political contacts across Australia.
James is the founder and a Director of Groom Kennedy, a leading Tasmanian corporate and commercial law firm, servicing national and international clients. Prior to this he was Senior Corporate Counsel and Group Company Secretary for GE Capital’s Australasian businesses. At the relevant time GE Capital was an integral part of the General Electric group of companies, one of the largest business enterprises in the world. It owned and operated several commercial and consumer finance businesses in Australia and New Zealand including equipment financing businesses, private label credit cards and motor vehicle financing businesses. It was regularly involved in major Australian and New Zealand commercial transactions.
Prior to joining GE Capital, James was a solicitor/senior associate at Australia’s largest law firm, Minter Ellison. As a member of the corporate and commercial law practice group and specialist role as due diligence team leader he worked on several major projects with values ranging in size up to $900 million. James also worked for extended periods on secondment with leading law firms in London, UK and Boston USA.
James is a graduate of the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Laws. Currently James sits on a number of external boards and committees and is a professional member of the Law Society of Tasmania and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Martin brings over 28 years of pharmacy experience to Cyrelian, owing and operating a successful retail pharmacy in Northern Tasmania for many years. He has recently exited a successful pharmaceutical business, which provided customised quality medicine to the hospital, oncology and aged care sectors under the relevant State and Federal legislation. Prior to this Martin lived and worked in the United Kingdom as a locum pharmacist in two hospital pharmacies.
Martin holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy and is a current Tasmania branch member of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.Contact Cyrelian
